2nd Annual Women Making A Difference Awards
In recognition of Women's History Month the Office of Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley sought nominations for the 2nd Annual Women Making a Difference Brunch. Thirteen women storytellers, across various publishing and news categories, were honored. The Portia Project® was singled out in the Podcast category.
Orange County has a long history of trailblazing women who make a difference in the lives of all of us every day. This event recognized women active in all forms of media and storytelling including print, radio, TV, stage, film, blogs, podcasts, news, social media, and artists.
M.C. Sungaila was awarded The 2023 Women Making A Difference Award in the podcast category for The Portia Project®. According to one of the award nominators:
“M.C.’s commitment to women’s issues, pro bono work, and community service have led to her recognition by prominent bar and community groups and earned her the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, whose recipients include seven U.S. Presidents, Nobel Prize winners, athletes, artists, and others whose work has made a lasting impact on humanity. More than a dozen other bar and community groups have also recognized her community impact and pro bono service.
Throughout her career, M.C. has demonstrated her commitment to bringing awareness to women’s stories, the challenges that they face, and the importance of supporting the next generation of women lawyers. Alongside her appellate practice, M.C. created The Portia Project®️ podcast, which serves as a platform to spotlight women’s issues by holding important conversations with prominent women in the legal sector. Between her law practice, pro bono work, podcast, and dedication to promoting women in the legal sector, M.C. has effectively positioned herself as a leader in law and someone who has made a difference.”
The brunch and award ceremony took place March 18th, 2023. Ms. Sungaila was introduced by Jessica Hubbard, CEO of the Casa Youth Shelter, and a former guest and collaborator on the podcast, who facilitated the Girls Inc. of Orange County episode as an executive at that nonprofit.
